Arkansas and Connecticut Friendship Garden

The San Francisco Examiner published an article recently that sheds a little bit more light around the public notice posted at the Connecticut Friendship Garden which reads: 'The City & County of San Francisco proposes to vacate the public interest in 22nd Street between Arkansas and Connecticut Street and deed a portion to the adjacent property owner at 695 Arkansas Street.'
If this legal jargon leaves you scratching your head, it basically boils down to the desire of Mike Lanza (who owns 695 Arkansas St.) to expand his property by purchasing city land - land that also contains part of the Arkansas community garden.
In return for purchasing this parcel of land for $41,500, Lanza has agreed to put $54,000 towards the upkeep of the remaining gardens and leave a separate lot he owns as open space. The city will use the payment of $41,500 towards neighborhood improvements including the pavement of the garden path and security lighting.
