Power Plant Task Force Special Meeting

Thursday, June 16, 2005, 6-8 pm
Potrero Hill Neighborhood House
953 De Haro Street

The Power Plant Task Force is reviewing the City’s proposal to site three gas-fired peaker plants at 25th and Maryland streets at the foot of Potrero Hill.

The new peakers coupled with PG&E’s completion of electric transmission projects would permit the closure of older polluting power plants in the Southeast.

The Task Force has invited representatives from Mirant Corp. (Potrero Power Plant), PG&E (Hunters Point Power Plant), the California Independent System Operator, the manager of electric transmission in the State, and the City, to provide presentations.

PROPOSED ACTION: The Task Force is considering a resolution to provide conditional support for the siting of the City’s gas-fired peaker plants. We want to hear from neighborhood residents before taking action.

This plan is completely bogus. Why is Sophie Maxwell so keen on having these plants in the neighborhood that's already endured years of bad air (causing very high lung disease rates)? Whose interests is she looking out for?

SF should be creating really good transmission lines and GETTING OUT of the power business. We don't have the space or need for these plants and could easily rely on redundant transmission lines with power coming from outside and renewables inside the City.

If power plants are so important in the city, how about if Cow Hollow, Pacific Heights or Cole Valley gets them? Our lungs have taken enough abuse.
