Purse snatching - 20th & Connecticut

Today, via e-mail

"My Nanny just had her purse swiped outside of the Thinkers cafe as she and some other mothers and children were enjoying a relaxing breakfast.

Two guys sprinted by and grabbed her purse right under her nose and made way to the hills toward the projects."

This incident appears to be part of a disturbing trend. It occurs only a few days after an assault upon 2 grandparents walking their grandson to the Potrero Rec Center, and just a few weeks after an assault on 2 senior citizens in front of the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House.

Bayview Police Report

"April 29, 11:08 a.m., a man and his wife were standing in front of 953 DeHaro (Potrero Hill Neighborhood House) when they were approached by two suspects who demanded his wallet.

One of the suspects then put the victim into a headlock and threw him to the ground,, where he struck his head on the concrete.  The suspects took the victim's property and fled.  Suspect one is a black male, 15-16, 5'3", 120, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.  Suspect two is a black male, 15-16, 5'3", 120, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue pants (050 475 516)."

The mugging of the grandparents on their way to music hour does sound very similar to the mugging of the elderly couple in front of the neighborhood house. Do you know whether the descriptions of the pair of suspects involved in the two attacks are similar as well?

I'm amazed there weren't 2 cops drinking lattes out front. Imagine the bad luck of being there the moment there aren't cops.

From Today's police report (Wed, June 8)

Just found this blog - the purse snatching and assault cases are unsettling. I may be moving to to Potrero Hill within the next month, to a building on Mariposa near Pennsylvania.

I imagine the area is relatively safe, and I'm glad there's a blog that covers neighborhood goings-on. Cheers to whoever is responsible for potrerohillsf.com :)

Despite the recent string of crimes, Potrero Hill is really a lovely place to live. One of the Potrero Hill beat cops mentioned that statistically, there is less crime in Potrero Hill than the Marina.
