After Sunset Scavenger

eye
At a recent crime prevention meeting with Captain Rick Bruce, the question was raised whether or not citizens should call about people scavenging through recyclables. Captain Bruce responded 'yes', and the following report is a good example why:

"Sex Offender Failing to Register, 1446 Kansas, July 20, 9:48 p.m. - Bayview Officer Cahill responded on a call that a homeless man was stealing recyclables from the bins in front of the caller's home.  The officer recognized the suspect as a convicted sex offender and arrested him for failing to properly register (050 811 891)."

Another interesting police report this week is of an eyewitness, who saw a burglary in progress but didn't call it in ... hmm, if you see a crime happening, please help your neighbors out and give the SFPD a call. Thanks.

"Burglary with Suspect Seen, 547 Arkansas, July 19, 3:30 p.m. - Bayview Officer Kwan responded on a burglary call and spoke with a contractor building a new home.  The victim reported that his storage container, stored on the street in front of the house being built, had been broken into and all of his tools were missing.  A witness had seen a white male suspect, driving a red pick-up truck, back into the storage shed's door, breaking it, at approximately 4:00 a.m. the previous morning.  The witness had then seen the suspect stealing all the tools (050 808 763)."
