Street Robberies Map, Crime Meeting and Safety Tips
To create community awareness about recent crime in our neighborhood, I've created a map of street robberies using the google maps api. By clicking on the red markers or the dates on the right hand side of the map, you'll see police reports for these incidents.
Potrero Hill neighbors are meeting with Captain Rick Bruce and San Francisco S.A.F.E. on Monday, July 11 at 6 pm to address questions and concerns regarding the recent crimes in our neighborhood. For an invite to this event, please e-mail: info (at) potrerohillsf.com.
Safety Tips
Captain Rick Bruce spoke about the recent crime in our neighborhood at the last Potrero Boosters meeting. He noted that some of the recent robberies are 'crimes of opportunity' that are not well thought out, and offered the following safety tips:
Don't walk alone, and remove valuables from purses
Stay in well-lit areas and trust your gut if you sense something's wrong
Light up the front of your house with motion sensors
Scream if approached by would-be robbers
Don't go toe-to-toe with assailants, as they may have a gun. Instead give up the cash, and get a good description.

Awesome work on this map...
When I'm suspicious of a person coming up to me I always head into the middle of the street. It means whatever they want to do has maximum visibility from all sides. I've never been robbed in the middle of the street.
I was the one who called 911 on July 7th. I watched the brazen pair case cars on both sides of the street. It wasn't that late (10:15) and people were still walking around. I'm really shocked that this was the 3rd car they broke into and did not get caught.
Also, hats off to the cities finest on the time it took them to send 4 cruisers...Less than 5 minutes.
gladys-
Nice work on helping catch the car thieves.
