Thee Parkside

thee parksideThee Parkside
If you're familiar with Thee Parkside, on 17th & Wisconsin, you might have noticed that it's recently been re-painted from forest green to fire engine red. I found myself wondering what inspired this transformation, so I headed on down to this neighborhood bar to get the lo-down. I met up with Terrence, who books bands and bartends there, and got my answer: they simply wanted to attract more attention (turns out patrons couldn't find the bar at night since the dark green blended in with the nearby park). Not only has the new color been successful in attracting attention, people are no longer confusing it for being an Irish bar.

While hanging out with Terrence, I also learned that Thee Parkside hosts free country music and a $2 Chili Dog BBQ on Sunday afternoons. The chili is made from scratch and is based on a Cincinnati recipe - if you're a chili expert you probably know that Cincinnati is home to the Skyline Chili, which originates from a greek recipe and contains no beans.

In addition to the BBQ, Thee Parkside serves up a full menu from Noon 'til 10 pm - there's even patio seating during the summer. They're trying to serve up healthy meals, so all the meat is from Niman Ranch; they even offer veggie burgers and dogs during the Sunday BBQs.

Thee Parkside is rawkin' with live music most days of the week, and occasionally hosts sidewalk sales and special events. Be sure to check out the online calendar for all the latest info, including the 5th Annual 29th Birthday Bash for poster designer Lil Tuffy, happening on Friday, July 29.
