Potrero Hill Remodel
The Chronicle recently featured an article about Potrero Hill resident Sandra Vivanco, a modernist and teacher of architecture at California College of the Arts. The article recounts her remodeling of 2 houses in which she built the houses literally up, but with great attention to details that would enhance the flow of light throughout.
One of the houses that she modernized was a 1928 Marina-style flat in Potrero Hill, in which she turned 2,400 square feet of livable space into 4,000. The owners of this house, Wendy Smith and Simon Lewis, had noticed a top-floor master suite down the street and left a note in the mailbox inquiring who the architect was - turns out it was Vivanco.
