Last week in
Leah Garchik's column in the SF Chronicle she noted that:
Former Mayor Art Agnos was spotted by J.S. walking a chocolate brown Lab on Potrero Hill and using a pointy stick to pick up litter he was collecting in a bag.
Well, Art e-mailed her back, and this week she
published the following:
Former Mayor Art Agnos, recently spotted on Potrero Hill walking his dog and cleaning up trash, e-mails that 'it is a reflex that every mayor picks up when they are in City Hall.' He takes his EZ Reacher stick with him most mornings when he walks his dog. One morning, a "nice young man having coffee at Thinkers Cafe offered to buy me a sandwich and a cup of coffee 'for working instead of panhandling.' " The next day, Agnos presented the young man with an autographed copy of 'San Francisco Stories,' a literary anthology published during the time he was mayor, with an introduction by Agnos. 'You should have seen his face.'
Editor's note: Former Mayor Art Agnos is a resident of Potrero Hill ... so be sure to say 'Hi' if you see him, his dog, and his EZ Reacher walking around the neighborhood.
